Upgrade to Windows 10 or not?

Alot of customers have asked me lately - should i upgrade to Windows 10 before the free upgrade period is over?  Is Windows 7 still going to be supported - Microsoft makes it seem like it won't be?

My answer:

Officially Windows 7 will be supported by Microsoft with security patches until mid-January of 2020.

If you are a business user - i dont recommend the upgrade at this time due to incompatibilities with alot of older business software.  My Quickbooks constantly crashes in Windows 10 (only the 2016 version is officially supported in WIndows 10 by Intuit), and it somehow seems slower than Windows 7.

If you are a home user, Windows 10 will probably be ok to upgrade to, but if you plan to replace your computer before 2020, why bother if you like WIndows 7?

Thats my advice!

More than 3 of my customers have been hit with this ransomware virus lately.  Every document/photo/email/quickbooks file/music file/video/database suddenly gets encrypted and held hostage for ransom.  The newest version even encrypts the backups created by Windows on a backup drive.  Its never been more important to have excellent virus protection, as well as a cloud based backup of your most important files (like Carbonite - which we are a reseller for of course).

Dont wait until its too late!   Hopsitals have been hit, banks, its all over the place.  Read the article about it here:  Ransomware!

Step 2 - Click on Update and Security

Step 3 - Click Recovery on the left
